Toulouse. Exhibition on special effects before the digital age
The Cinémathèque de Toulouse offers, until April 2, 2023, an exhibition entitled “Special effects, the heroic era before digital”.

“A journey into the marvelous world of special effects”
The exhibition offers ” a journey into the marvelous world of special effects, […] a world where special effects in cinema were just specialrare, employed to create what does not exist in reality or that it is too targeted to go and film “.
Thus, she focuses on a few dating back to before the digital, when VFX (visual effects) did not exist. Concealments, masks, overlays, frame-by-frame animations, scale differences, perspective effects, make-up… first steps taken by the technicians, craftsmen and artists who invented and perfected a whole arsenal of artifices intended to amaze the spectator “.
The Cinémathèque de Toulouse shows behind the scenes via objects and tools, workshops, filming photos… Among the centerpieces, a ” extraordinary cinema head» : that of the monster “Alien” by Ridley Scott. It sits in the hall of the cinematheque.
