The diocese of Avignon does not want to sell the building occupied by migrants to Rosmerta
Rosmerta is deadlocked in Avignon. The association has been hosting migrants in a building of the Intramuros diocese for four years now. Archbishop François Fonlupt does not wish to sell them this building. Rosmerta for her part does not want to rent it at the rates offered by the diocese. One of the volunteers, Guy Chenevier, finds that the negotiations are progressing much too slowly, while the deadlines granted by the courts to occupy the building have passed and the end of the winter break is looming.
Looking for a mediator
A media could therefore be appointed to try to bring the two parties to an agreement. The dialogue exists but it is infrequently recognized by the diocese and the association. In June, Rosmerta offered to buy the building pay 500,000 euros. A price below the market admits volunteers but negotiable and which takes into account the state of the building, the presence of asbestos and the necessary work. Rosmerta has received no official response but Archbishop François Fonlupt has since clarified to France Bleu that he does not wish to sell.
He prefers to rent: a 20-year lease, at 3,500 euros per month. Too much for Rosmerta who denounces the slowness of the negotiations. Four years indeed that this file skates. Does this get stuck at the level of the diocese or beyond, wonders the defenders of migrants. The arrival of a mediator, above the fray and accepted by both parties, could unblock the situation.
