Iran reminds Sweden of the need to respect the rights of former official Nouri – Politiknyheter
Kanaani on Wednesday expressed deep regret over the unexpected and surprising behavior of the Swedish Court of Appeal against the Iranian citizen earlier in the day.
Noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort to defend the rights of its citizens worldwide, he added: “We once again remind the Swedish government of the necessity to respect the human, legal and consular rights of this Iranian citizen. .”
A new set of trials for Nouri, who was detained on his arrival at Stockholm airport three years ago, began on Wednesday in a Swedish court.
Authorities in Sweden claimed that he had participated in the execution and torture of members of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) in 1988.
Nouri strongly denies the allegations.
The Swedish court system framed his case based on allegations by the terrorist organization MKO, which claimed that Nouri was a prison guard for the MKO workers in the prison.
Nouri declared at the start of the new trial that “I believe this court is unfair, and I will not join the court until my concerns are alleviated.”
The court had muted Nouri’s microphone, but he still spoke loudly, saying: “I do not have access to an ophthalmologist; therefore, I cannot read the material in my case.”
He went on to emphasize: “I have spent the last three years and two months in solitary confinement. Although the judge has decided that my restrictions no longer apply, my contacts are still prohibited.”
Nouri was sentenced last year to life imprisonment by a Swedish court. He has often complained of being beaten and tortured in custody.
Nouri was given no help, not even a translator, to find out the details of the verdict before the Swedish court sentenced him to life in prison.
