City wants to save 15 percent of jobs
Munich – Even after Corona, city employees should work from home: the city wants to cut 15 percent of its office jobs.
Not all of the 43,000 city employees fit into Munich City Hall. They work in offices across Munich, which the city often has to rent. And that’s expensive. The municipal department should therefore ensure that each department saves 15 percent.
More home office, less office
As can be seen from a non-public meeting document, this does not work equally well everywhere. While the district administration department (KVR) and the treasury manage 15 percent, the IT department even manages to cut 20 to 30 percent of the jobs. The social department and the planning department could not free up any space.
Actually, the municipal department suggested rejecting further space requirements in principle if the goals were not achieved. But the city council adjourned the decision on Thursday.
The municipal department assumes that the new office concepts will save five million euros annually. And there is further savings potential: the city actually wants to build new offices on Dachauer Strasse, for example. The question now is whether it’s still worth it.
