A Calvarystarted at Christmas and lasted for days. Valeria Fioravanti27-year-old young mother died of one bacterial meningitisdiagnosed late, after being examined e discharged from three hospitals Romans.
Valeria, who took care of security for Rome airports in Fiumicino and Ciampino, 13 months ago she had become mother of V., a splendid little girl. Christmas day goes to Biomedical campus to remove an abscess. From here he never goes back: his conditions do nothing but get worse. The wound becomes infected and two days later he decides to go back to the same hospital for a checkup. He comes medicated and sent home.
After two days it starts to have headache and neck pain. Then she decides to go, just once, to the emergency room of the Policlinico Casilino. Where she is diagnosed with a cephalia and comes discharged with the prescription to be taken anti-inflammatory. But no way. Valeria continues a male gaze. She then changes again and this time she goes to the hospice’s emergency department Saint John.
Here too, after a first login, they prescribe anti-inflammatories and the use of a collar. But her condition worsens. And come back again on January 5th. Eleven days after that surgery which must have been trivial routine. It is only then that a night shift doctor understands that it is not a common headache. That the source of the problem is of type bacterial and orders a series of tests that confirm his suspicions.
For Valeria, however, it is too late. Those days lost between one misdiagnosis and another have been hers fatal And the infection is no longer damable. A little later the girl goes into a coma and the family decides to move it to Gemelli Polyclinicwhere yesterday is dead. Among the disbelief and desperation of his partner Fabrizio, his sister Flavia, athlete of the Asd Frascati skating club and artistic roller skating agonist, his father Stefano and his mother Tiziana.
Now the word passes to the lawyerscharged by the family – certain that Valeria is the victim of a case of medical malpractice – to examine the clinical documentation, and to the medico-legal reports. For its part, the Lazio Region «has arranged an audit to reconstruct what happened – explained the regional health councilor, Alessio D’Amato – but it will take a few days.’
