towards more nature at Bagatelle and La Faourette
As part of the “My ideas for my neighborhood” operation carried out by the Toulouse town hall, four projects will be carried out in the Fontaine-Lestang, Arènes, Bagatelle, Papus, Tabar, Bordelongue, Mermoz and La Faourette districts. Among them: the revegetation of Fontaine-Lestang, the creation of a two-way cycle path rue Henri Desbals or the planting of fruit trees.
They were force of proposal. As part of the operationMy ideas for my neighborhood“, the City of Toulouse invites its inhabitants to submit their projects “to improve life in their neighborhood”. They submitted 1600 proposals in total. Of these 1600, 800 were pre-selected by local residents. The municipality then selected 200 after having verified their technical and financial efficiency and proposed to the vote of Toulouse residents. The latter finally selected 83 ideas.
Four of these selected proposals concern district 2.3 Fontaine-Lestang / Arena / Bagatelle / Papus / Tabar / Bordelongue / Mermoz / La Faourette in Toulouse. Among these, three are in the category “nature in the city” and one “eco-mobility”. The town hall does not give a precise timetable for the realization of these four projects. But these were to see the light of day “within two years”. A budget of 305,000 euros will be invested by the municipality to implement them.
Revegetation of the Fontaine-Lestang district
The proposal with the most votes, 96, in district 2.3 concerns “nature in the city”. It relates specifically to the revegetation of the Fontaine-Lestang district. The resident who submitted this idea proposes to planter for trees “in very paved streets”to revegetate the latter and/or to modify the ground materials in order to “limit summer overheating”.
The location of these plants in the Fontaine-Lestang district is not yet known. “The required planting areas will be consulted with local residents, in order to collectively determine the parking spaces which could be eliminated by green spaces”, announces the town hall of Toulouse. In all, 150,000 euros will be mobilized by the City to carry out this greening project.
Creation of a two-way cycle path
The second idea aims to create a cycle path “for better continuity on rue Henri Desbals”. The project leader explains: “There is a cycling discontinuity on rue Henri Desbals between Mermoz and boulevard Déodat de Séverac”. This resident thus proposes to make this lane one-way from Place Mermoz to the boulevard in order to create a two-way cycle path.
The town hall is in favor of this project for an amount of 45,000 euros, but only in part. She will indeed experience a one-way street of Henri Desbals between Fontaine Lestang and Déodat de Séverac to create this cycle path. But it will not carry out this development on the rest of the street for the moment because it “requires a more comprehensive traffic study carried out on the scale of the district”.
Fruit trees in Bagatelle and La Faourette
The third project is proposed by the association AlimEco. The latter would like 300 fruit trees to be planted in the Bagatelle, Papus, Tabar, Bordelongue and La Faourette districts in order, in particular, to “maintain and enrich biodiversity in a highly urbanized district”, “to involve the inhabitants in taking care life” and to “promote access to quality food”.
To enable the realization of this project, the municipality will invest 100,000 euros. This amount will finance the planting ofa hundred fruit trees spread over two green spaces in order to create an orchard for the inhabitants of the district”. “Further analyzes will be carried out before planting in order to check soil pollution”, indicates the City of Toulouse.
An educational apiary for these neighborhoods
The AlimEco association also carries the latest proposal for district 2.3. It evokes the creation ofan urban space centered around the establishment of an educational apiary to “act in the neighborhood in the face of the disappearance of pollinators”. The objective of the association with this proposal: “to involve the inhabitants by the contact, the practice and the learning of the care given to the living”.
The town hall of Toulouse has given a favorable opinion on this proposal from the AlimEco association. However, some conditions must be met before it can be implemented. “A more in-depth study by the services is necessary to ensure its realization”, indicates the municipality. A budget of 10,000 euros will be devoted to this project which obtained 43 votes in all.
