It is one of the largest municipalities in Haute-Garonne and it is the first in the department to limit the authorized speed to 30 km/h maximumeverywhere in its territory.
“Divide by six the risk of mortality”
Monday, January 16, 2023, Blagnac will expand its 30 zone across the entire city.
The town hall recalls the objectives of such a measure: “Fight against excessive speed, secure cohabitation between street users, pedestrians and bicycles, divide by 6 the risk of death in the event of impact between a car and a pedestrian or cyclist, reduces noise pollution and air pollution”.
With an immediate consequence: “the disappearance of around 450 road signs for less visual pollution”, announces the City of Blagnac on Facebook.
“A lot of speeding”
Whatever the street taken, small or large, the motorist will not be able to exceed 30 km / h, under penalty of being sanctioned.
“There was a lot of speeding, behavior that was not at all correct at the wheel and dangerous for cyclists in particular. The idea is to pacify the traffic”, explained, a few months ago to Toulouse news, Pascal Boureau, city councilor in Blagnac.
Originally, the city’s mobility plan planned to lower the speed to 30km/hour, with the exception of five structuring axes in the city, as Toulouse can currently do.
Toulouse leaves certain major axes at 50 km / h
But on October 11, 2022, the Mayor of the City, Joseph Carles, during a public meeting, it was finally revealed to its constituents that the whole city was going to pass at a maximum authorized speed of 30 km / hour “during 2023”.
So far, in our department, several municipalities, including Toulouse, had gradually extended the zones limited to 30 km / h, without ever going to the end of the process.
