Sweden is preparing to allow more nuclear reactors to increase electricity production
Sweden is preparing legislation to allow the construction of more nuclear power plants to increase electricity production in the Nordic region and strengthen energy security, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on Wednesday.
Kristersson has made the expansion of nuclear power generation a central goal of his right-wing government, which is trying to reverse a process of gradual shutdowns of several reactors over the past few decades that has made the country more reliant on renewable but sometimes less predictable energy.

The proposed new legislation, which still needs to be passed by parliament, would allow new reactors to be built in more locations in Sweden and was seen to be in place by March next year.
– We have an obvious need for more electricity production in Sweden, Kristersson said at a press conference.
“What we are doing today is changing the legislation to allow the construction of more nuclear reactors in more places.”
