Top 14 – Bru, Giroud, Penaud… le nouveau Bordeaux-Bègles prend forme
The arrivals of Yannick Bru and Thibault Giroud have (finally) been formalized by Union Bordeaux Bègles, this Tuesday, January 10. Two months after the end of the Christophe Urios era, and two weeks after announcing the signing of Damian Penaud, the 2023-2024 vintage of UBB is taking shape.
Their arrival was no longer a secret. Announced for several weeks in Gironde, Yannick Bru and Thibaut Giroud have engaged with UBBthis Wednesday, January 10, until 2027. Two signatures that definitively close the era Christopher Urios, started in the summer of 2019 and concluded last October. His two former assistants, Frédéric Charrier and Julien Lairlehave since been at the head of the UBB and their fate is not yet sealed.

A new chapter will therefore open in Bordeaux where the Bru-Giroud duo will be able to count on Damien Penaudat least until 2026. The Clermont winger was indeed seduced by the Girondin project initiated by Laurent Martin and the former Bayonne manager. By signing in Gironde, the 2017 French champion sent a strong signal to rugby France. Matthew Jaliberta time on the start, should stay in Gironde and be part of this new Bordeaux.
Radradra still expected at UBB
To bring the Bordelais to the roof of France, Laurent Marti also had to decide the fate of several players at the end of the contract. The departures of Federico Mori (Bayonne) and Alban Roussel (Lyon) are recorded, while Santiago Cordero should not be retained. In front Clément Maynadier extended one more season and Romain Latterrade, hooker of Mont-de-Marsan, should land in Gironde. At the scrum, Paul Abadie has also signed up with Bordeaux and will compete with Yann Lesgourgues and Maxime Lucu, Jules Gimbert being out of contract.
The Bordeaux squad is being built up week after week, with a three-quarter line that could sparkle even more. Laurent Marti still hopes to bring back Semi-Radradra, he who had already worn the Girondin jersey between 2018 and 2020. The current Bristol center has only played five games this season with the Bears and his physical condition still raises questions. But with Jalibert, Penaud, Moefana, Tambwe, Buros or Bielle-Biarrey, Girondin supporters already have something to salivate about…
