251 million overnight stays in the EU via online accommodation platforms in the 3rd quarter of 2022.
Data published by the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, reveal that during the third quarter of 2022, guests made around 251 million overnight stays in the European Union through online platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group or TripAdvisor, with an increase of around 24 percent, compared to the same period in 2021.
These data also show that platform tourism exceeded the summer levels recorded in 2019 by nine percent when these platforms reported about 230 million guest nights, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
According to Eurostat, taking into account the gradual recovery in the number of bookings that took place during the second half of 2021, in the first half of 2022 bookings reached and exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the first time.
In addition, in the first six months of last year, 199.4 million overnight stays were realized, compared to 83.8 million overnight stays recorded in the same period in 2021 and 193.3 million overnight stays in 2019, which represents a modest growth of 3.2 how much.
