2022 brought more bankruptcies and higher debt
business
The number of bankruptcies increased in Salzburg in 2022 – with the number of company bankruptcies increasing significantly more than that of private bankruptcies. The latest statistics from the Alpine Association of Creditors (AKV) also show that the amount of debt is also increasing.
In the previous year, the insolvent Salzburg companies were in debt with a total of almost 70 million euros, the private ones with almost 47 million. Both values are massively above the year 2021 – by almost two thirds for the companies – calculates the AKV. And the absolute number of bankruptcies has also increased in some areas. In the case of private bankruptcies, the statistics show an increase of 30 percent, and in the case of company bankruptcies, it was even 70 percent more.
In terms of sectors, most insolvencies affect trade, transport, construction and the hotel and catering industry, with tourism being the only area in the top five where the number of bankruptcies has actually fallen slightly.
Biggest bankruptcy with 22 million euros
By far the largest bankruptcy in 2022 concerns the Eugendorfer Scalahaus Holzbau GmbH with debts of almost 22 million euros – as a result of which the Musterpark GmbH, also in Eugendorf (Flachgau), also slid into insolvency. There, however, attempts are still being made to rehabilitate it.
One of the biggest bankruptcies of the year was the end of the Gaißau-Hintersee mountain railways with a debt of at least 1.7 million euros. By the way, four of the ten biggest bankruptcies in Salzburg concern private individuals, the most devastating misery was a Halleiner with more than six million euros in debt. In general, according to AKV statistics, personal bankruptcies mainly affect men of working age between 25 and 59. On average, they owe a good 130,000 euros.
