Toulouse: a banker and his wife suspected of having taken advantage of a disabled couple who won the EuroMillions
It all started in 2014 when a disabled retired couple from Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) won 513,000 euros by playing EuroMillions. They blamed the money on their niece and her banker husband, now accused of robbing them.
In Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), a banker and his wife were tried last week, suspected of having embezzled money from a couple of disabled people who received 513,000 euros at theEuroMillionsparticular report Free lunch.
It was in 2014 that this blind sexagenarian, as well as his wife, 80% disabled after a work accident, had won this sum. At the time, they did not want to collect the money, for fear of losing their social benefits.
They had then decided to entrust their gain to their banker, who is also the husband of their niece. An agreement had been agreed between the two couples, the niece and her husband having to keep the money in one of their accounts and buy a new house for the two pensioners.
This promise was respected since the niece, aged 46 at the time, had a brand new house built worth 350,000 euros. The remaining 113,000 euros have been set aside in the but to be used in case of work in the house.
In 2017, retirees moved in but as tenants. According to the version of the niece’s lawyer and her banker husband, his clients were to receive “700 euros from their aunt and uncle and his clients reimbursed them in cash”. Reimbursements that the victims claim to have never received.
Unpaid rents and abuse of weakness
The tensions began in 2020, when the disabled couple wanted to repair their boiler. They then asked to draw from the 113,000 euros set aside, which the banker and his wife will be refused. Faced with this refusal, the disabled people stopped paying the rent.
In 2022, faced with this situation, the owners set up an eviction procedure and the victims ended up filing a complaint, on the advice of their lawyer.
After an investigation, the banker and his wife were tried on Thursday January 5 before the criminal court of PĂ©rigueux (Dordogne). The prosecutor proved that the defendants were guilty of abusing the vulnerability of their uncle and aunt.
He demanded a fine of 10,000 euros, the confiscation of the house and two apartments in Toulouse which would have been bought with the money of the victims. The verdict in this case will be delivered on February 13.
