Since 13 October 2012 in the Basilica del Santo there is a sandstone plaque, the work of the stonemasons of the Autonomous State Company for Public Works, which recalls an event in the recent history of the Republic: the pastoral visit of Pope Ratzinger to San Marino on June 19, 2011. An event that certainly brought to mind the equally historic visit of John Paul II on August 29, 1982, the first ever visit of a Pope to Mount Titano. A visit, that of Pope Benedict XVI, carefully prepared by the Vatican jointly with the Diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro and the political institutions of the Republic, led by the Foreign Affairs Secretariat. The numbers disclosed by the Diocese through the voice of the Bishop Monsignor Luigi Negri are impressive: it is estimated that 22,000 will participate in the Holy Mass at the Stadio Olimpico in Serravalle (today San Marino Stadium), almost 30 concelebrants, a large liturgical choir, assembled for the occasion with over 180 elements from the various diocesan groups, directed by the teachers don Andrea Bosio and Augusto Ciavatta, 4,000 young people in Pennabilli where the Holy Father is expected in the late afternoon at the end of his visit to San Marino, over 240 accredited journalists.
