PSG Talking Podcast: Transfer Talk, Match Recaps and Friendly in Saudi Arabia?
New year, new podcast! Paris Saint-Germain returned to action after the FIFA World Cup and many fans wonder if new faces are needed in the French capital to take the club to the UEFA Champions League.
On this episode of PSG speaksI am joined by Ethan from PSG Wooded Fan Club to break down PSG’s recent fixtures, discuss potential transfer targets, anticipate the upcoming schedule and discuss an oddly scheduled friendly for the club.
The first is the 2-1 victory against RC Strasbourg Alsace. There were plenty of talking points in that match at the Parc des Princes, including Marquinhos scoring two goals – one for PSG and one for the visitors – Kylian Mbappe’s winner and Neymar Jr.’s red card for diving.
Before kick-off against Strasbourg, PSG announce that Marco Verratti has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2026. We discuss what it means for a club like PSG to keep so many world-class players in the team beyond their initial contract.
Then we face the 3-1 beating at RC Lens. Should fans be worried that PSG won’t measure up to an atmosphere like the one they’re likely to see in the Champions League? Moreover, could Lens beat PSG for the Ligue 1 title despite being just four points behind the capital club?
More recently, the youngsters had the chance to shine against LB Châteauroux in the Coupe de France. PSG escaped with a comfortable 3-1 victory and we wonder if Hugo Ekitike could see more playing time in the future. We also discuss the latest media rights in the United States regarding the Coupe de France.
The January transfer window is officially open but as we discuss on the show, PSG are unlikely to cause a stir. Financial fair play will almost certainly prevent PSG from bringing in the type of centre-back they need to strengthen the defense, but could a few player sales finance a star?
Looking ahead, we wonder when Lionel Messi will return to the starting lineup, if there’s bad blood between Messi and MbappĂ©, and why in the world PSG would schedule a friendly match in Saudi Arabia in mid-January.
