Augustiner in Kölsch format causes a stir on the internet
A visit to the Brauhaus Augustiner on the Heumarkt in Cologne could be unusual for Bavaria: there the guest can drink 0.25 liters of Augustiner. Despite positive feedback from visitors, criticism was raised – also because of a controversial statement by the owner.

The brewery in Cologne opened on December 23rd. When it comes to beer, the tenants work to strict specifications. Glasses & pre-chilled beer lines cleaned every week. The choice of draft beers: Augustiner Helles, Edelstoff or Dunkel. They gave up Kölsch.
Size adjusts to Cologne
But the tenants have a compromise: the starting size is not half a liter like in Bavaria, but half. Landlord Janis Leiro told BILD: “Here in Cologne, people are used to the 0.2 glasses coming to the table in a jiffy. We wanted to keep that and it was well received.” If you don’t want that, you can also order a pint or a pint.
Nevertheless, the tenants have to drop allegations. Critics take up a statement by the managing director in the Express report of December 23: “Half a liter is perhaps too big a challenge for some guests at the beginning, so we also offer smaller glasses.” A user writes in a Google review about prejudice, arrogance and little knowledge of human nature.
Manager apologizes
“Anyone who comes across as a traditional Bavarian tenant with so much arrogance towards future guests has lost with me. As much as I like to drink Augustiner – I’m sure I won’t,” says another review. The owner personally apologized to users if the report had been misinterpreted. One does not want to prejudice anyone, he writes.
Other guests defend the offer. “Anyone who happens to complain about the option of 0.25 L glasses should simply order a measure,” says a Google review. A visitor was happy about the 0.25 liter Augustiner. “I also don’t know why this offer is viewed with arrogance… think that’s pretty irrelevant,” she writes. Another user says: “It’s great that the beer is also offered in 0.25, especially for business lunches.” Opinions are also divided on Instagram and Facebook because of the Augustiner. Some write: “I prefer to drink Kölsch”. Others comment: “Finally a decent beer.”
