PRESS RELEASE
Center College’s study abroad/abroad courses for the 2023-24 academic year were recently announced at an unveiling event hosted by the College’s Center for Global Citizenship. New semester locations and programs build on the Center’s global education guarantee and reputation as a national study abroad leader.
Three new study abroad locations will be offered in the 2023-24 academic year: Ecuador; Alicante, Spain; and Istanbul, Turkey.
“It always amazes me how our faculty at the Center develops and leads programs all over the world,” said Karen Ryan, Deputy Director of CGC and Study Abroad. “This year we will see Belize, Bhutan, England, East Africa, Turkey, Italy, Senegal and Gambia, Spain, Lake Tahoe and Merida, Mexico. There is certainly something for everyone.
As part of the College’s collaboration with Rhodes College and Sewanee University, the Center will offer a new semester program in Ecuador this year with a full course load on the Global Environmental Challenges curriculum. The Mellon Foundation awarded an $850,000 grant to Centre, Rhodes and Sewanee in 2018 to expand learning experiences to make study abroad more accessible. Students will enroll in three courses in Cuenca, Ecuador, and a fourth course will be taught in the Amazon River Basin and the Galapagos.
Biology professor Mark Galatowitsch carried snorkeling gear and binoculars as he spoke about his upcoming CentreTerm course in Belize.
Three “immersion programs” will have lessons taught exclusively in the language of the host country: Regensburg, Germany; Marista, Spain; and Nantes, France.
Also new this year, freshmen can now travel abroad during the summer, another first for the College.
