The way out is now emerging for the Aston Villa star who admitted ‘I can’t stay’
Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert is set to join a Ligue 1 side during the January transfer window. The Frenchman recently admitted he was considering a move.
It depends foot market, which reports “everything indicates” to Guilbert sealing a return to his home country. The right-back had spent his entire career in France before joining the Villans in 2019. He also headed to Ligue 1 on loan from January 2021 to June 2022.
Aston Villa are now unlikely to stop Guilbert from sealing a permanent transfer by setting a high valuation. He is out of contract in June and failed to return to the team when Unai Emery arrived. Like Steven Gerrard, the Spaniard freezes Guilbert.
Frédéric Guilbert is ready for a transfer far from the margins to Aston Villa
Guilbert hasn’t played a single game for Aston Villa since his 32nd appearance for burgundy and blue in August 2021. Gerrard started the 28-year-old at AFC Barrow in the EFL Cup and saw the full-back score and create some a. goal in a 6-0 second-round win.
Yet Guilbert then left Aston Villa and joined RC Strasbourg Alsace on another loan move for the full 2021/22 season. He had also spent the second half of the 2020/21 term at the Stade de la Meinau Strasbourg on loan. The right-back also impressed with Le Racing.
Johan Lange told Frédéric Guilbert to find a new club in November
Strasbourg have seen Guilbert make four assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, from 28 appearances. Still, the former France Under-21 international hasn’t made the matchday first-team since returning to Aston Villa under Gerrard or Emery.
So Aston Villa sporting director Johan Lange asked Guilbert to find a new club in November, birmingham live reported. The leader of the Villans is reluctant to let the £40,000 per week outcast leave in a Bosman deal at the end of the season. But he could allow a free transfer in January.
Gilbert also said Alsa Sports in December that “I can’t stay in this situation forever” after training with the U21s. He also added: “At the moment there is nothing but I am open to suggestions. I am in the market. What matters to me is to play and find pleasure quickly.
