Portugal will experience a tremendous storm of rain and wind this weekend
Throughout the week, including this Thursday (5), the weather in Portugal continental was, dry, sunny and relatively coldespecially in the morning and at night, due to held down positioned over the Iberian Peninsula. The thermometers, during the hours of sunlight, even registered mild values, which evolved, daily, into a high thermal amplitude.
Until Wednesday (4) the wind blew weakly from the North, but, from then on, it turned and passed blowing weakly from the east quadrant, in virtually the entire territory. Also highlight the sharp nocturnal declineespecially in the lands of the interior as well as the formation of ice and frost in vast areas of the interior North and Center. As if it were not enough, the fog was locally persistent in most of the districts of Real Village, Bragança, Viseu and guardleaving reduced visibility.

For Friday (6), Dia de Reis, the first reflections of an imminent change in the weather in our country are expected.. The early hours of dawn and morning will be cloudy or very cloudy practically from the north to the south of Portugal, open later in the day, but with the dominance of clouds in evidence for practically the whole day, especially in the North and Center.
The wind will blow moderate to strong from the south quadrantespecially on the north coast and fog may persist in some inland locations for the first half of the day, but will eventually dissipate. In general, the temperature will register a decrease in maximum values and a small increase in minimum values.
Weekend with abundant rain, mild temperature and risk of flooding
On Saturday (7) the first wave of rain will arrive in mainland Portugal. It will penetrate our geography, through the Northwest, specifically by the districts of Viana do Castelo, braga and harbor. The storm will be born thanks to the passage of a very active atlantic cold frontresulting from a very deep depression (954 hPa), which will be in circulation towards the west of Ireland.
A lot of rain will fall in the North and Center, especially in the western half – west of the Condensation Barrier and north of the Montejunto-Estrela system. Yet, as regions of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and a good part of Alentejo observing light rain, occasionally moderately. To algarve residual precipitation will arrive.
On Saturday (7) it is also expected that the minimum temperature will rise sharply across the country and that the maximum registers an upward rise. The wind will change the direction it will come from, blowing moderate to strong from the southwest.
it is estimated Quite strong on the North coast where maximum gusts can reach an impressive 75 km/h! In some regions, especially on the north coast, there may be thunderstorm. To be aware of the probability of occurrence of electrical activity, consult our ray map.
The abundant rain generated by this tremendous storm of rain and wind will constitute a risk of flooding, flash flooding, landslides and landslidesaggravated by the fact that many soils and areas are already very weakened and competed, experienced by the amount of precipitated water in recent weeks.
Worse weather conditions are forecast for Sunday (8), something that could further complicate the hydrological risk situation in potentially flood-prone areas., but only in some regions of mainland Portugal. From the Mondego river to the south, the instability should decrease immensely, while to the north of this watercourse, moderate rain, occasionally heavy, is expected.
This weekend’s heavy rain and wind storm will be particularly robust in the regions do Minho, Metropolitan Area of harbor, Alto Tâmega and Douro, AveiroSerra da Estrela and at some points Viseu Dão-Lafões and Region of Coimbrawhere an expected rainfall totals vary between 75 and over 100 mm (mm).
