Planica 2023 – the biggest sports event in the history of Slovenia
Government Communications Office has already prepared promotional highlights of media content for journalists in Planica – presentation of the IFS brand, sports infrastructure and investments in sports, interviews with Slovenian athletes, presentations of cultural heritage, natural beauty of Slovenia, cuisine, etc. One of the most prominent events will undoubtedly be the participation of Tina Maze, IFS ambassador, at the sports conference on February 22, 2023.
With more than 40 world records, Planica has become a magnet for visitors from all over the world. From a small town and valley, Planica has become a real world sensation and firmly anchored itself on the sports map of the biggest and best organizers of such sports events. For the first time in history, two legends of ski jumping jumped over 100 and 200 meters in Planica. The FIS Ski Jumping World Championship Planica 2023 is an all-Slovenian project and the largest sporting event in the history of Slovenia in close cooperation with Beljak and Trbiž.
Uroš Zupan, director of the Skiing Association of Slovenia: “We expect 250,000 visitors, 2,700 journalists from 70 countries, 2,500 athletes will participate, and 1,800 volunteers will come to help. The contribution will be recorded by 130 TV cameras, and 62 medals will be awarded in three sports disciplines during the 12 competition days.”
Aleksander Geržina, Slovenian ambassador to Austria: “The Austrian state of Salzburg is a sports, tourist and economic center at the same time. Salzburg is an important city for Slovenia, both as a sports and tourist center, as an important location of many ski centers, world-famous athletes and companies that are an important partner of the Slovenian economy. Salzburg is therefore the right destination for the promotion of Planica, Kranjska Gora and Slovenia, and of course the FIS World Championship in Nordic skiing.”
Tomaž Šušteršič, Secretary General of the Skiing Association of Slovenia: “We are happy to be the organizers of such an important event, and I invite all fans of Nordic skiing to join us.”
As part of the pre-holiday reception, the FIS World Nordic Skiing Championship 2023 in Planica was promoted on December 15, 2022 in Salzburg. The event was coordinated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Austria, Aleksander Geržina, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Salzburg, Anton Santner.
