In a situation early this morning, the director of Lisbon’s Municipal Civil Protection Service told Lusa that the fire that broke out in a building on Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, in Lisbon, caused three very serious injuries – a couple and a girl from 5 years that was in the elevator — and three graves.

The displaced are being accompanied and have housing alternatives in the homes of relatives.
The fire broke out at 2:15 am at number 108, Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, in the parish of São Domingos de Benfica, in a mixed building: offices up to the 5th floor and housing from the 6th to the 10th, where 21 people live .
According to Margarida Castro Martins, a visit will be made to assess the state of conservation of the building.
At 4:20 am the fire was declared extinguished.
“The fire was extinguished in stages. It is a 10-storey building. The fire started on the ground floor and spread through the technical ducts to the upper floors. The problem was getting people out, we had to get them out by mechanical means, through escalators”, tells the commander of the Lisbon Fire Sappers Regiment, Tiago Lopes.
The commander said the origin of the fire is unknown.
87 operations remain on site, including elements from Sapadores Firefighters, Municipal Police, Lisbon Volunteer Firefighters, Civil Protection, PSP and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), with the support of 40 vehicles.
