Avian influenza in Salzburg: compulsory stables because of the deadly virus for birds
The year is only a few days old, but it begins with compulsory stables for chickens in the Flachgau and the city of Salzburg. The reason for this: since the end of 2022 Cases of avian influenza were found in several wild birds in Vienna and Lower Austria.
FLACHGAU/SALZBURG. For safety reasons, the Ministry of Health will prescribe this measure in the next few days. For 16 communities in Flachgau and the state capital, stables will be compulsory in the coming days.
Overall, a corresponding amendment to the Avian Influenza Ordinance of the Ministry of Health is to be enacted in regions with an increased risk of avian influenza, which provides for a stable requirement for all companies and hobby holdings over 50 animals. In this case, the poultry must be kept in closed stables until further notice.

16 Flachgau communities and Mozart city affected
The state veterinary director Josef Schöchl informs in advance that the stable requirement is probably in the communities of St. Georgen near Salzburg, Bürmoos, Lamprechtshausen, Dorfbeuern, Nußdorf am Haunsberg, Berndorf near Salzburg, Seeham, Mattsee, Obertrum am See, Göming, Oberndorf near Salzburg, Anthering, Bergheim , Wals-Siezenheim, Anif, Elsbethen and the city of Salzburg.

Observe safety measures in case of avian influenza
In those affected, direct and indirect contact between poultry and wild birds should be prevented, for example by feeding them in the barn or not using surface water for drinking.
Seek veterinary advice for unclear health problems on poultry farms. Wild waterfowl and birds of prey found dead must be reported to the locally responsible district administration authority (official veterinarian).
