Mainz goalgetter Burkardt: Munich instead of Marbella
The training camp gallop on the day of arrival is traditionally shorter than other training sessions. For 60 minutes, 28 players from 1. FSV Mainz 05 romped around on the lawn of the Marbella Football Center. The most interesting news comes from two missing from the green.
Munich goes through Marbella: Jonathan Burkardt has been working on his comeback since mid-December.

Problem child I: Surprisingly, Jonathan Burkardt did not make the trip to Andalusia. At short notice, the 22-year-old decided to have a check-up with the surgeon in Munich, where he had gone under the knife in mid-December due to a knee injury.
“We’ll wait for the doctor’s feedback and then decide whether it makes sense for Jonny to follow or do a program in Mainz. There are a few possibilities,” coach Bo Svensson said of his protégé. Nor is the goal for Burkardt to be completely fit when the Bundesliga restarts on January 21, it is “almost impossible”. Especially since everyone involved is clear that “he needs the training sessions and the intensity to bring his qualities to the pitch. It doesn’t depend on a few days either.” In the past season, the captain of the German U21s was the most accurate Mainz player with 11 goals in the Bundesliga.
Problem child II: Anton Stach also avoided kicking the ball on Wednesday. The international had already broken his ring toe during a friendly in mid-December. Svensson confirmed the corresponding information from kicker from the previous day – keyword broken toe. “We will see day by day how the foot reacts to stress. It depends on Anton’s sensitivity to pain when he gets back in. It may be at the training camp,” emphasized the FSV coach.
No sign of the new defender yet
The desired reinforcement for the back three is not yet in sight in vertical Spain, which Svensson takes calmly: “I always said we’ll do something. As a coach, you want to realize that as soon as possible, if they were players they would be here too.”
The 43-year-old is aware that the transfer market is “unusual anyway” due to the long winter break. He cannot completely rule out further departures after Niklas Tauer (Schalke 04), “but we want to add to the squad rather than reduce it.”
