President dismisses ambassador in Portugal – DW – 03/01/2023
The reasons for the changes enacted by Sissoco Embaló were not advanced.
“It is Ambassador Helder Jorge Vaz Gomes Lopes, exonerated from the position of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau in the Portuguese Republic, to which he was appointed by Presidential Decree No. 11/2016, of December 2” refers the presidential decree.
Another document marks the appointment of Artur Silva, who, among others, was head of Guinean diplomacy, having also headed Defence, Education and Fisheries as well as the Management and Cooperation Agency between Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.
Artur Silva, 67 years old, was also appointed by the then Guinean President, José Mário Vaz, between January and April 2018 as Prime Minister, but did not manage to form a government due to differences between parties.
Also today, through presidential decrees released, Umaro Sissoco Embaló changed the country’s ambassador in Algeria, removing Pedro Maria Mendes Costa and placing Mamadu Aliu Jalo in the position.
