Guided tours of the Synagogue and Jewish cemetery of Pisa are starting up again
Guided tours to discover the Synagogue of Pisa and the Jewish cemetery in Piazza dei Miracoli, treasure chests of art, culture and history that tell the millenary events of the Pisan community, are starting again after the break for the holidays. Located in the center of Pisa, a stone’s throw from the Verdi Theater, the Synagogue of Pisa owes its current form to the restoration project of the architect Marco Treves, carried out in the mid-1800s, but it has been located in this building since 1595.
Visiting it is a journey into the history of the millennial Jewish community of Pisa with the possibility of admiring unique objects such as the 16th century Haron Ha Kodesh. The cemetery in Piazza dei Miracoli is active since 1674 alongside the ancient walls: separated from the square by the ancient Porta del Leone which in the Middle Ages represented the main access point to the city, it is characterized by a remarkable architectural variety. Characters who have shaped the history of Pisa are buried inside.
Visit available every Sunday with departures at 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 at the Jewish cemetery, at 15 and 16.30 at the Synagogue in via Palestro, ticket for 4 euros for the Synagogue, 3 euros for the Jewish cemetery, 6 euros cumulative, 1 euro pre-sale fee.
