The PP tries to sign a Ciudadanos leader for the Barcelona candidacy
The popular parties (PAGES) has tried to sign in December Ignacio Martin Whiteone of the emerging figures in citizensto lead his candidacy for Barcelona, but the orange deputy in the Catalan Parliament such a possibility and underlined his fidelity to the orange project and its leader in Catalonia, Carlos Carrizosaaccording to sources popular a THE OBJECTIVE.
The offer to Martín Blanco was transferred a close person to the president of the Catalan PP, Alexander Fernandez, in casual conversation. Upon verifying the refusal of the orange deputy to join the project, the initiative had no further journey in time nor is it expressed in writingunderline the cited sources.
The PP had placed Martín Blanco first on the list to lead the constitutionalist platform that Alberto Núñez Feijóo said in early December in an interview in The world. But the fact that the PP imposed its initialsas happened in the last regional elections of February 2020, left very little margin for cross agreement. Both Ciudadanos and other center-right formations (Vox and Valents) immediately reject such a possibility.
The election of the candidate for Barcelona continues to be the most delicate operation for Feijóo after the Christmas break, as it is a place in which the PP borders on disappearance. The latest polls give the popular above the threshold of 5% to enter the consistory with a minimum of two councilors as in the current legislature -in 2019 it reaped 5.01%-, but in Genoa they are not calm.
The PP does not want to repeat the Bou option
The PP disputes the vote cake of the constitutionalist center-right with Ciudadanos, Vox and Valents and if the four formations go to the elections separately, it is possible that only one or two overcome the aforementioned barrier. Feijóo has analyzed several profiles for Barcelona, including independent ones, but he has not made up his mind.
The names that sound the most are Lorraine Roldánregional deputy who has the support of the aforementioned Alexander Fernandezand of daniel sirerawho was president of the Catalan PP 15 years ago in a brief period of a few months and who currently works as chief of staff of the popular candidate for the Valencian Community, carlos mazon.
Roldán is one of the best-known figures of the Catalan PP after passing through Ciudadanos, but he has the problem that is not registered in Barcelona -he comes from Tarragona-, so his choice could look “like the imposition of a parachutist”. Until a few weeks ago, she had a potential rival in the Vice-Secretary for Social Policies and a member of the National Electoral Committee, angeles estellerwho was ‘right hand’ of Alberto Fernandez when the latter was talkative in the town hall, but his option has lost strength.
«The cards are already on the table, so all that remains is for them to decide. They all have more cons than pros, hence the delay»
A leader of the Catalan PP
Esteller knows the town hall inside out – he has been there for more than fifteen years. However, has little charisma between the bases and is considered «too conservative» for the cosmopolitan and young image that the city projects. Nor does it attract the signing of an independent businessman in Genoa, as was the choice of Josep Bou in 2019, when this option has numerous detractors. “You don’t know if you’re doing well with these types of candidates until you open the melon,” a leader of the Catalan PP warned this newspaper.
the PP had been marked December 20 as the deadline to have already decided all the regional and municipal headliners. The first thing got it after Jorge Azcon announced the day before that he would run for the presidency of Aragon, but there are still many mayoralties to be decided: Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Ciudad Real, Segovia…
So Genoa will have to decide on someone they trust sooner rather than later. «The cards are already on the table, so all that remains is for them to decide. They all have more cons than pros.hence the delay», summarizes a leader of the Catalan PP on the dilemma with the candidacy of Barcelona.
