New car sales in Portugal coordinated 2.8% in 2022
“ANDn 2022, 185,291 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented a decrease of 30.8% compared to 2019, despite the comparison with 2021 showing a slight increase of 2.8%”, can be read in an ACAP statement.
Taking into account only the month of December 2022, 18,356 motor vehicles were registered by the legal representatives of the brand operating in Portugal, 12.4% more compared to December 2021 and 19.1% less compared to December 2019.
By typology, from January to December, registrations of light passenger vehicles totaled 156,250, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and a decrease of 30.2% compared to 2019.
In the month of December, 14,698 new light passenger cars were registered in Portugal, an increase of 16.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and a drop of 17.1% compared to the same month of 2019.
Data show that, from January to December, 40.5% of new light passenger vehicles registered were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrid.
Of these, 15.4% were hybrid vehicles (HEV), 11.4% were electric vehicles (BEV) and 10.3% were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).
As for light goods vehicles, in accumulated terms, the market totaled 23,541 units, down 18.2% compared to 2021 and 38.8% compared to 2019.
The light goods market recorded, in December 2022, a negative evolution of 7.0% compared to December 2021, to 3,052 registered units and 32.8% compared to the same month of 2019.
Heavy vehicles, which include types of passengers and goods, increased by 40.0% in December compared to the same month in 2019, with 606 vehicles in this category having been sold.
Compared to the same month of 2021, the weight market increased by 36.5%.
In 2022, enrollments in this category totaled 5,500 units, a decrease of 1.3% compared to 2019 and an increase of 13.4% when compared to 2021.
