Increase in fuel prices and tolls in Italy
With the new year, the Italian government did not extend the reduction in the final price of fuels. At the same time, the price of tolls on Italian motorways is increasing.
The new year brings with it the end of the price reduction at the pump, which expired on December 31, 2022. Last month, the reduction in fuel taxes was worth 18.3 cents per liter for petrol and 3 .4 cents per liter for diesel.
The tax cut was first revealed last March by the Draghi government. It was then 30.5 cents. The measure had been extended several times, also by the Meloni government until the end of 2022 (although reduced).
Fuel prices down, ahead of further rise expected
According to data published by the Italian Ministry of the Environment, fuel prices are falling. Gasoline fell to 1,625 euros per liter, a value not seen since June 2021. Diesel meanwhile arrived at 1,689 euros per liter, its lowest level since January 31, 2022.
However, according to specialist industry media, a further price increase of around 18 cents per liter is to be expected in the coming period. Also, according to the consumer defense association Codacons, the interruption of the reduction of 18.3 centimes since January 1, could lead to an increase in the refueling of 9.15 euros.
Where to find the cheapest petrol stations in Italy?
To save as much as possible on fuel, it is still possible to compare prices at the pump to find the most advantageous service stations. The Ministry of Economic Development offers a comparison of the prices of the 15,000 fuel distributors present in Italy through its site fueli.mise.gov.it , each being obliged to provide the prices charged at the pump. It is also possible to check the prices charged by independent service stations, called “white pumps”, directly on their website. www.pompebianche.it.
