The preliminary export figures for the first half of 2022 are available and show an impressive result: Tyrol’s economy can – as in the first half of 2021 – look forward to an increase in exports compared to the previous year, as Economic Provincial Councilor Mario Gerber informs in a broadcast from the state of Tyrol : “In the first half of 2022, Tyrol recorded a clear increase of 16.1 percent compared to the first half of 2021. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased from around seven billion to around 8.2 billion euros. These figures show how popular Tyrolean goods are outside of state and federal borders. A big thank you goes to the Tyrolean business people and the employees, who are mainly responsible for the successful course of the Tyrolean economy .
Austria’s neighboring countries are Tyrol’s important trading partners
The European Union, the rest of Europe and Asia are the three regions where Tyrol has the strongest exports. The export balance for the EU countries is around 5.2 billion euros, which is 17.3 percent more than in the first half of the year, and for the rest of Europe at around 1.9 billion euros, it is even 19.4 percent more.
“Tyrol’s neighboring countries of Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein as well as Italy are still the largest buyers of domestic goods. In the first half of 2022, 23 percent more goods were exported to Switzerland and Liechtenstein than in the same period in 2021,” summarizes Provincial Councilor Gerber. Exports from Tyrol to Slovenia have also risen noticeably, namely by 53.9 percent and an increase from 119.7 to 184.2 million euros.
Pharmaceutical products are still the number one export item
In the first half of 2022, pharmaceutical products, with an increase of 12.5 percent to around 1.4 billion euros, as in previous years, are the frontrunner in exports of goods, machines and mechanical devices with around 926.6 million Euro. The exports of wood and wood products as well as charcoal have also increased by 33.7 percent and an increase from 551.8 to 737.7 million euros, making them one of the top 3 export goods in Tyrol in the first half of 2022.
