Such poor aim by V. Guimarães only at the time of… conquest of the Portuguese Cup
In 2012/13, when he would win the Portuguese Cup, he also scored 14 goals in the first 14 rounds. Moreno’s team, which claims to have the finishing problem identified, was blank in five of the 14 games in the I Liga, in two of the four in the League Cup and in one of the four in the Conference League.
Since the start of a season, on the 21st of July, with Puskas Akadémia, for the Conference League, V. Guimarães has lost eight matches, the last one in Vizela (3-0). In the derby final, Moreno admitted that Vitória has “a finishing problem, which is identified”, assuming “lack of completion in the last third”.
It is necessary to go back to 2012/13 to find an equal record in the finalization chapter. At the time, under the command of Rui Vitória – who would go on to win the Portuguese Cup, defeating Benfica, in the Jamor final, on 26 May 2013 -, the Victorians also scored 14 goals in the 14th round, but , it should be noted, had less six points (17) and more five goals conceded (21) and was one place below (seventh) than Moreno’s team.
Interestingly, there were also nine players who had scored on matchday 14 until the 2012/13 edition: Amido Baldé and João Ribeiro (three each), Soudani (two), and with one goal each, N”Diaye, André André, David Addy, Marcelo Toscano, Leandro Freire and Barrientos.
From the current list of scorers of the team that, with the desire in Vizela, recorded the worst series of the season (four games without a win after the draws in the League Cup with Vilafranquense, B SAD and Boavista), Nelson da Luz is the only one who did three goals. Strikers André Silva and Anderson and midfielder Tiago Silva total two and there are five more with a goal: Mikey Johnston, Janvier, Jota Silva, Lameiras and André Amaro.
