As President-elect of Brazil, Lula da Silva already visited Portugal, between 18 and 19 November, after having participated in the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), in Egypt. On that occasion, he was received by the Portuguese head of state and prime minister, António Costa, in Lisbon.
On Monday, the day after taking office, Lula da Silva will receive the head of the Portuguese State, in Brasília, in a meeting that will include delegations from two countries.
When he visited Brazil in July of this year and in 2021, the Portuguese President was invited with Lula da Silva in São Paulo and with other former presidents of Brazil.

That night, shortly after the Supreme Electoral Court of Brazil gave the election as mathematically defined, the Portuguese head of state congratulated Lula da Silva and expressed his certainty that his mandate “will correspond to a promising period in fraternal relations” with Portugal.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa made it known in September, when the election campaign was taking place, that he intended to be present at the inauguration of the next President of Brazil.
