“It’s a responsibility above all”, the mayor of Peille reacts to his election as head of the Grimaldi Historical Sites Association
The association, of which Prince Albert II is Honorary President, aims to raise awareness of the old ties that unite France* and the Principality of Monaco..
It is full of training that Cyril Piazza, young mayor of Peille aged 41, recover the torch of the Grimaldi Historical Sites Association of Monaco. This network, created in 2015 on the initiative of the former mayor of Menton Jean-Claude Guibal, brings together more than 70 French municipalities that took part in the vote. The latter elect a board of directors which in turn elects the President.
Benefit from the positive image of Monaco
“Could be elected all the members of the board of directors, but there was a consensusis pleased to see Cyril Piazza, elected President of the association for three years. For me, it is above all a responsibility. My historic role is to continue to develop the ties that unite France and the Principality of Monaco. This may be heritage elements such as towers, castles or religious buildings, in small villages as well as large cities”.
In concrete terms, what do French municipalities gain from being part of the association? “French historic sites can find a springboard for development through the network, whether from an economic or touristic point of view. Finally, this partnership allows them to benefit from the positive image of the Principality. Because in my opinion, the image of the Sovereign Prince and his family shines in France and internationally. »
Developing digital
While remaining in the continuity of his predecessor Jean-Claude Guibal, Cyril Piazza intends to bring his stone to the building. “I think we’re going to have to move a little more towards digital. For example, I would like to set up QR codes that will allow tourists who visit the sites to discover history from their smartphone, to know how a particular building is linked to the Grimaldi family. It’s paperless and it works. The idea would be to set them up in all the towns of the association” ambitions the mayor of Peille, a city classified as a Grimaldi Historic Site in Monaco.
In addition to being mayor and recently President of the Grimaldi Historical Sites Association, Cyril Piazza is also President of the Community of Communes of the Pays des Paillons. It ensures that these three functions are reconciled as best as possible. “I have very busy days, it’s true. But these are completely different roles. historical sites, it’s culture, historical connection, it’s more fun for me, and I’m lucky to have four vice-presidents and a full office with treasurer, assistant treasurer, secretary, general secretary… I’m counting a lot on them to co-construct. »
Two new towns in the process of joining
Cyril Piazza plans to bring together the members of the association on a regular basis, whether by videoconference or face-to-face to “promote understanding and exchanges”. Moreover, a trip has already been recorded in the calendar of the new President: next March 10. “We are going to unveil a plaque in Ollioules, a new town, Var, which will join the Historic Sites. Breil-sur-Roya in the Alpes-Maritimes will also follow, which has expressed the desire to join the association. » Of course, the two municipalities have, upstream, proven their historical links with the Grimaldi family of Monaco.
* Previously, the Grimaldi Historical Sites Association brought together French and Italian municipalities, but the statutes were modified on 22 November. “ So there are two associations “, explains Cyril Piazza. A French association of Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco and an Italian association, which is carried out by Fulvio Gazzola, the mayor of Dolceacqua.
