Slovaks sometimes cannot estimate when to go to the doctor or the emergency room. Medically, they often complicate work in an already difficult season.
Patients have to expect longer waiting times at the doctor’s office. Outpatient emergency services or emergency services register an increased rush during the holidays due to the flu epidemic. This was pointed out by the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Slovak Republic. He appeals to people to pay extra attention when assessing health problems for which they call an ambulance or visit the emergency room.
Overloaded emergency rooms
“At the same time, the ministry appeals to patients to prefer visiting a general practitioner before using the emergency room or emergency rooms, despite the longer waiting times for symptoms of the flu. Thanks to this, it is possible to prevent unwanted situations, when patients normally cope with respiratory diseases, overloading emergency clinics or emergency admissions,” informed that mild symptoms should be stayed at home.
We are more susceptible
According to the department, a stronger flu is due, among other things, to the fact that people are more susceptible to respiratory diseases.
“It is also due to the relatively low incidence of influenza and similar diseases in the past two years. Nevertheless, seasonal respiratory diseases in the autumn and winter months are not an unusual phenomenon,” he added.
