A Moroccan nugget makes Monaco happy
Monaco, beaten at home by Marseille (3-2) for its last match before the truce of the World Cup, returned with difficulty to victory in Auxerre (3-2) thanks in particular to a double from its new Moroccan nugget Eliesse Ben Seghir, Wednesday during the sixteenth day of Ligue 1.
Entering the break in place of Wissam Ben Yedder, who had equalized from the penalty spot in added time in the first period (90+3), Ben Seghir (brother of Marseillais Salim) thus scored his first two goals in Ligue 1 ( 58th, 85th), at just 17, including the second, splendid, with a curling shot from outside the box.
This ninth success of the season (against three draws and four defeats), allows Monaco to temporarily climb to fifth place in the standings, pending Lorient’s match Thursday at home against Montpellier (15th).
Promising debut in Ligue 1 for the young Moroccan nugget, barely 17 years old. Coming from the Principality club’s training center, Eliesse Ben Seghir became, with his double against Auxerre, the second youngest player to score a double for Monaco in Ligue 1, after Thierry Henry against Lens in 1995.
Of Moroccan origins, the young Monaco prodigy can therefore choose to play for the Atlas Lions in the future, even if he has already defended the colors of France at U17 and U18 level. This is, moreover, the case of several binational players who ultimately opted for the lair.
