What air pollution in the metro in Toulouse?
Air pollution has been monitored for several years in the metro in Toulouse. To reduce it, Tisséo has implemented actions.
The National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (Anses) alerted last June. In the subway, the air would be three times more polluted than outside. That of Toulouse does not escape this pollution.
Tisseo note thus, in a recent balance sheet, “ a few occasional overruns of the recommendation thresholds of the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety”. But he judges that “the air quality is acceptable” in the metro.
The air quality of the Toulouse metro monitored
If Tisséo can affirm it, it is because he calls on Atmo Occitania in order to perform air quality measurements in the metro in particular on the platforms and the billet rooms, in the trains and in the tunnel, but also the operating premises.
The air quality of line A has been monitored by the association since 2004 and of line B since 2008. “Tisséo is the only network at national level to carry out measurement campaigns every year”, emphasizes the Toulouse public transport.
Actions to reduce pollution in the metro
These measures prompted Tisséo to implement actions to reduce emissions. The transport network has therefore decided to modernize the electronic braking systems and to better control the ventilation to evacuate the pollution.
According to ANSES, the latter is indeed “caused by the wear of materials due to the braking of the trains, by contact between the rolling stock and the railway or by the resuspension of dust due to the movement of the trains “.
