The rest of the warriors
After a long first leg full of twists and turns, Pisa took a few days off. The Nerazzurri troops will return just before the Epiphany. There’s time to look back with pride, at the end of a comeback that isn’t over yet, but which has numbers and moments that have all the hallmarks of a great company.
A MASTERPIECE SIGNED BY D’ANGELO – From rags to riches in 3 months, canceling a deficit that seemed to be able to condition Pisa’s progress throughout the season. So it actually was, but as in great stories, the moment of the crash was only the antechamber of a great climb, in body and spirit as well as in the standings. The return of Luca D’Angelo has restored luster and has represented the players and the environment, so much so that today it is almost possible to joke about the bad initial start, thinking that perhaps this team, so strong, needed to leave a certain advantage to the opponents , to make things more interesting.
THE NUMBERS – The best attack is that of Pisa, with 30 goals in 19 games, a record in conjunction with Inzaghi’s Reggina. The streak of 14 consecutive useful results allows us to surpass the previous record of Pisa set by Gian Piero Ventura from 2007-2008, while Gigi Simoni’s 16 from 1984-85 are now in our sights. It is also the second best streak with Luca D’Angelo on the bench, considering that the Nerazzurri have the most important record in the history of Pisa precisely the 27 useful results with which the team managed to dominate Serie C in 2018-19 and started the next cadet championship on the right foot. If one takes into consideration the 13 games with D’Angelo on the bench, in these days the Nerazzurri would find themselves in first place together with Frosinone, who scored the same points as D’Angelo in the same period. There are also a couple of curiosities closely linked to last season. The one against Spal was the first match of 2022 and the last of the same year, but above all Pisa, thanks to D’Angelo, replicated the same 29 points won in the second round of the last championship. Furthermore, in the calendar year, Pisa is the fourth team to have had the best performance with 58 points won, behind Reggina (59), Ascoli (64) and above all Frosinone which, with its 69 points won in the calendar year, it is a candidate as favorite for direct promotion, so much so that it has won, with 39 points in the first round, one point more than Pisa with which it closed at the halfway point of the last championship.
THE REST – Impressive numbers that also deserve due rest. In fact, from today the team is on vacation until Epiphany eve. Only Caracciolo remains in Pisa to train, who must complete the differentiated work to return to the group. D’Angelo, who flew to Paris with his family to recharge his batteries, will also have to evaluate the conditions of Ernesto Torregrossa and Pietro Beruatto with the technical and medical staff on his return, who came out with a muscle problem during the match against Spal.
