Minister Naď: Slovakia has already received the first 40 million euros from the EU fund to help Ukraine
Slovakia has already received the first 40 million euros from the European Peace Instrument for military aid to Ukraine. At the turn of the year, another approximately 40 million euros are expected to be paid out. In an interview with TASR, this was confirmed by the temporarily appointed Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď (OĽANO).
As he added, the department immediately uses the money to purchase ammunition and technology for the Slovak Armed Forces.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the Slovak Republic has given aid to Ukraine in the total value of approximately 167.8 euros. In addition to the S-300 air defense system, Slovak aid support included, for example, the Božena demining system, five helicopters, ammunition, fuel and small arms. Another help was the donation of 30 BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, for which Slovakia will receive 15 Leopard 2A4 battle tanks from Germany.
The European Peace Facility (EPF) was established in 2021 with the intention of ensuring the security and defense capabilities of the members of the European Union (EU) and its partners and to preserve peace, international security and stability in the world. He was supposed to finance, for example, the purchase of military equipment to support countries in Africa. The war in Ukraine led to a reassessment of the EU’s priorities. By 2027, the amount of EUR 5.7 billion should be available in the fund.
