The meeting was annual: on the evening of December 31, to celebrate New Year’s Eve, night lovers used to continue the evening in a nightclub. The last time this scheme was possible was in 2019. Nightclubs had to keep their doors closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic for 18 months, but also for New Year’s Eve in 2021. Saturday 31 december 2022, these establishments will indeed be open to the delight of patrons.
Between 30 and 50% profit
New Year’s Eve is no ordinary event for nightclubs. It is “the best evening of the year”, explains Ivo Danaf, president of the Union of trades and hotel industries (UMIH) in Haute-Garonne and boss of Purple. Compared to a traditional Saturday, these establishments can make between 30 and 50% more profit for the New Year, he confides to Toulouse news.
Closing the year 2022 by keeping the establishments open is a relaxation for the bosses. “For a year and a half, we lost our profits, so opens on this date, it is an immense joy, a feeling of happiness and freedom”, specifies Ivo Danaf. And for good reason: a year ago, Jean-Castex’s government took the decision to close them for the holiday season to stem the fifth wave of the Covid-10 epidemic. An announcement received as a real blowexplained at the time Philippe Belot, vice-president of the UMIH in Haute-Garonne.
A general impatience
The directors of Purple and Zapata are unanimous. The people of Toulouse want to extend their evening until the end of the night and will be there on Saturday December 31, 2022. “We already have a large number of reservations for the first part of the evening. We also expect people to come and dance until 5 a.m., ”explains Florian Lamarque, owner of Zapata. Ivo Danaf confirms, “customers come, they want to wake up and celebrate the 12 strokes of midnight to the sound of chimes”.
Jack Perry, Dj within the Esmeralda, is also impatient to find the revelers for this rather special evening. “After three years without a New Year, it was time. It feels good to be back,” he says. Nevertheless, he hopes not to be disappointed. According to the DJ, habits have changed: “People come later or fewer times in the month. But for December 31, it seems that there is a real craze”.
A grand evening
In the nightclub, located a stone’s throw from Lake Sesquières, revelers will have the choice between two rooms, explains Jack Perry. One broadcasts current music while the 80-90 year atmosphere is planned in the second.
For regulars at the Purple, there will be no meal due to “difficulty finding a caterer”, explains Ivo Danaf. On the other hand, the decoration will be there. Small bonus for those who would reserve a place: a box of chocolate will be offered.
At the Zapata, a very festive theme was planned for New Year’s Eve. “It’s the great return of the Gatsby show with dancers and light shows from 9 p.m. to midnight,” says Florian Lamarque. Reservations are already almost complete for this first part of the evening where customers can eat. The dancefloor will be accessible from midnight.
