Benoît Badiashile closer and closer to Chelsea, Monaco prepares for his departure
According to our information, AS Monaco is very close to an agreement with the London club to sell its central defender.
The Blues have been in talks with RB Leipzig over Croatian star Josko Gvardiol since last summer, but his excellent World Cup performance has boosted the 20-year-old’s rating.
The German club’s asking price for Gvardiol has skyrocketed and teams around the world have their interests in the defender. Chelsea’s attempts to strike a quick deal have proved unsuccessful so far, with the German club happy to wait until the summer to agree a sale.
The London club are therefore looking for immediate help in defense and sources have confirmed to 90 minutes negotiations are underway with monaco for a deal to bring Badiashile, 21, back to England.
The France Under-21 international, who has more than 100 appearances for Monaco, has long been watched by a number of European clubs and Chelsea were already among those considering a transfer this summer.
On Tuesday, talks got under way for a transfer that would see Badiashile join Chelsea from January to provide immediate help to a Blues defense that has only kept a clean sheet four times in premier league this season.
Chelsea have already done business with Monaco this season, agreeing a deal for scout technical director Laurence Stewart.
90 minutes understands that Gvardiol remains the Blues’ main defensive target, but Leipzig’s reluctance to accept a deal in January has forced the Blues to consider alternatives. Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie has also been eyed but a deal this winter is seen as complicated.
The Principality club must now plan for the future even if it should recover 40 million euros in this operation.
As the report RMC Sportsthe Monegasque sports management is working to find an additional defender despite the presence of Axel Disasi, Malang Sarr, Guillermo Maripan and Yllan Okou to replace a potential departure of the French international (2 caps).
