Accused by the Arabic media Achkayan “apology for Salafism” and of “religious proselytism” Zakaria Aboukhlal was defended from these charges by his club, Toulouse FC: “The club condemns the accusations made by a site with regard to our player Zakaria Aboukhlal and joins forces with the Moroccan Football Federation to ensure its full support and confidence in our player” .
Indeed, a few hours after the publication of this article (“Aboukhlal, a Salafist in the national team”) in which the player is accused of having done “the apology of Salafism within the selection of Morocco and tried to enlist the players to its cause” to be “appeared several times with people affiliated with a European Salafist movement” and of “spread his religious ideas indoctrinated by European Salafist sheikhs” the Moroccan federation had also immediately condemned this article, consistent “exemplary behavior” of Aboukhlal. Arrived in Haute-Garonne this summer, Zakaria Aboukhlal quickly established itself as an indisputable starter with notably three buts registered.
