Portugal: Secretariat of Liturgy published music for «Announcement of Easter and movable feasts»
Fátima, 26 Dec 2022 (Ecclesia) – The National Secretariat of Liturgy (SNL), of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, published the music for the ‘Announcement of Easter and movable feasts’ of 2023, by Father António Cartageno, which can be seen announce in the Epiphany of the Lord.
“On the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, where appropriate, or if deemed opportune, the movable feasts of the current year may be announced after the Gospel. The deacon, the priest, or a cantor announces them from the ambo, according to an ancient Church costume (cf. Roman Missal, p. 171)”, explains SNL.
Next year Easter will be celebrated on the 9th of April, and from this date derive the main moving data of the liturgical year: Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, is on the 22nd of February; the Ascension of the Lord, on the 21st of May, and Pentecost, on the 28th of the same month; and the first Sunday of Advent is on December 3rd.
In 2023, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord will be celebrated on January 8; Epiphany, a word of Greek origin meaning ‘brightness’ or ‘manifestation’, is one of the oldest liturgical feasts (4th century), and is celebrated both in the East and in the West.
