Discover the 5.2 district of Toulouse thanks to the drone of the Conti studio for Actu Toulouse:
Rangueil, the scientific center of Toulouse
The south-east of Toulouse is distinguished first by the vast district of Rangueil, residential as desired, but above all university.
It is also a scientific center of primary importance since it brings together the Paul-Sabatier University, the hospitals of Rangueil and Larrey, the Faculty of Medicine but also a large number of establishments such as the National Center for Space Studies (CNES), the National Office for Aerospace Studies and Research (ONERA), the National Center for Scientific Research ( CNRS), the National School of Civil Aviation (ENAC) or the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Toulouse (INSA).
A relatively recent development since the sector was for a long time the prerogative of agriculture. The district owes its name to Rangueil Castleintegrated at the beginning of the 18e century by Louis-François de Rangueil, capitoul of Toulouse. Destroyed in the early 1980s, the château was located in the triangle that today forms Avenue de Rangueil, Rue des Cormiers and the Toulouse ring road.
Rangueil has recently been served by the south urban cable car or Aérotram which links Paul-Sabatier University, Rangueil Hospital and Oncopole.
The residential district of Saouzelong
A link between Rangueil and the city center, the Saouzelong or Sauzelong district is not the best known of the Pink City but certainly one of the most charming and pleasant of the Pink City.
A stone’s throw from the Busca or the Pont des Demoiselles, it borders the Canal du Midi and has its own metro station. The habitat mixes pavilions and small ensembles. Its name Sauzelong probably comes from the late willow (sauze or sause in Occitan), the most transferred tree in this long marshy corner of Toulouse.
The Hill of Pech-David
This corner of Toulouse takes on all its charm above all on the heights of Pech-David, THE hill of Toulouse culminating at 130 m above the level of the Garonne. Here, on a breathtaking view of the Pink City and the Pyrenees chain.

UN large park of 380 ha is available to Toulouse residents eager for weekend walks.
A battle took place here, during the French Revolution, when royalist insurgents tried to seize the city in 1799. Thirty gendarmes repelled without difficulty 700 peasants badly armed with bad rifles, killing half of them .
Pouvourville, “the village”
At the foot of the hill, a friendly residential area comes alive away from the bustling city center. This is Pouvourville.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, Pouvourville was for a long time a village apart from Toulouse, even establishing itself as an independent municipality in 1790. Quickly attached to the Pink City administratively, it still retains a small independent spirit.
The oldest Toulouse residents remember that it was here that a detachment of the sinister Das Reich (which notably martyred Figeac, Tulle and Oradour-sur-Glane) lodged here during the German Occupation.
