A live tree is more ecological than an artificial one, it can also be replaced by a Czech one, claims Greenpeace Slovakia
Greenpeace Slovakia offers tips on how not to forget about the environment during Christmas. The organization says that it is not necessary to stop celebrating, only to change the way of celebrating. Most people and the planet will appreciate the intangible so-called experiential gifts, such as a cultural show, season tickets, courses or wellness.
Hand made gift
In the case of a material gift, Greenpeace recommends local production, such as handmade products. He informed about it in the press release of Greenpeace Slovakia.
An ecological gift can be a hand-made gift, second-hand gifts are also suitable. Things will thus get a new life and a second chance for use. These are mainly products from bazaars, second-hand shops or antique shops. It is also possible to donate a gift to a non-profit financial support organization.
“In the case of a new gift, it is appropriate to buy a gift from an unpackaged store. For those who like classic gift wrapping, a suitable way is to wrap them in a paper bag. For example, plant products from the surrounding area, ropes or various twine can be used,” said Greenpeace Slovakia spokeswoman Patrícia Brandysová.
Unnecessary food waste
A living tree is and always will be more ecological than an artificial tree made of synthetic polyvinyl chloride, which are difficult to recycle.
a Christmas tree from a forest nursery or a pine tree or bramble is ideal. The most ecological decorations are the ones we already have. A good alternative are decorations made of natural materials, such as pine cones, nuts or branches. As for better lighting, the best is light that saves up to 80 percent and also for the environment. Lighting contributes to light smog, so it’s a good idea to turn off lights as often as possible.
During the holidays, we can prevent the exchange of food, for example, by thinking that it must be eaten so that it does not end up in the trash. It is a good idea to carry your own bags for grocery shopping. It is good to avoid industrially processed foods. Deforestation and animal suffering can be reduced by limiting the purchase and consumption of animal foods.
Public transport in Bratislava operates in a modified mode, 113 machines will also be temporarily shut down
During the Christmas holidays, the Bratislava transport company adjusted the frequency of the public transport (MHD) line.
As informed by DPB spokesman Martin Chlebovec, from December 23 to January 8, public transport in Bratislava operates according to timetables in the mode of working day – school holidays.
During the holidays, the lines operate in the mode of free days. During the holiday period, school lines will not operate, and between December 27 and January 5, 2023, neither will booster lines 7 and 196.
Night lines on New Year’s Eve
During Saturday, December 24th, public transport operated exceptionally, and daily lines gradually stopped running after 5:00 p.m. From 18.00, night lines began to operate, until midnight at 30-minute intervals, and after midnight according to regular timetables. Line 69 operated only until 2:00 p.m.
On the night from December 31 to January 1, the traffic of night lines will start at 30-minute intervals from 1:30. “DPB is ready after the end of the New Year’s celebrations, on the instructions of the traffic dispatchers, to equip additional backup vehicles,” he added. The dispatch of school lines and the working day – school year regime will be resumed on Monday, January 9, 2023.
List of disabled machines
During the New Year’s Eve, the transport system will be shut down and mechanics will secure against 113 ticket vending machines in particular. “The reason is repeated vandalism during New Year’s Eve celebrations. These are primarily facilities in exposed locations,” explained the DPB spokeswoman.
The list of disabled machines will be available on the DPB website in the coming days. The machines will be put back into operation on January 1, 203. At the end of the year, the operation of travel tickets in the New Town Hall on Primacial Square will end.
DPB recommends that passengers use ecological forms of single-use ticket sales and through the “Kartuj” services directly in the vehicle, via a mobile application, an SMS ticket or an electronic ticket in an electronic wallet. “Alternatively, the traditional form of sales with commission sellers is also available,” concluded Chlebovec.
