On Christmas Day, they will be on the pitch at 10 a.m. sharp. The players of Malherbe Caen Stadium will have joined their locker room at the Ornano stadium a good hour earlier. At a time when millions of children will be stamping their feet with impatience at the idea of discovering what Father Christmas has in store for them, the Malherbistes will be preparing for their trip to Bastia. This year, for the first time in France, Boxing Day is in the spotlight. Caen will travel to Corsica on Monday December 26, 2022.
For weed growers, the calendar is more atypical than disturbing. “It’s weird compared to previous years but it’s part of our job to adapt to these situations, explains Anthony Mandréa. We were able to rest for two weeks. There will be no problem. »
Christmas will take place
Professional football provided a long truce during the World Cup. Two weeks of vacation were allocated to the Caennais in November and December. From then on, physical and mental freshness put this special end of the year in the background.
We are lucky to make football our job, we are not going to complain. We had two good weeks off which did a lot of good. We were able to relax at that time.
The Malherbistes do not intend to let Christmas slip by the wayside. “We’re going to find the time to celebrate Christmas,” said assistant coach Patrice Sauvaget. Less or differently than usual. The watchword is adaptation. Non-Normans, accustomed to visiting their parents at Christmas, have found solutions. “I am lucky that my family can come, appreciates Hugo Vandermersch. We can spend family celebrations while remaining serious. »
Above all, no excess
The excesses often associated with Christmas and then the New Year are obviously banned. No instructions have been sent, but the club is counting on the professionalism of its men. “You have to keep a line of conduct”, explains Anthony Mandréa, who will restrict himself to chocolate. “We will be careful to rest well, not to eat anything,” promises Yoann Court.
You have to be careful not to eat too much foie gras and not to drink too much champagne (smile). We are going to be careful, especially as the matches are going to follow one another.
The Caennais are ready. It is rather the end of the season that already questions Yoann Court. It will extend by two weeks compared to the last season. “We will have to hold out until June, maybe that’s when it will be harder on people’s minds. »
