Slovenia limits electricity and gas prices for public institutions – Famagusta Gazette
On Thursday, the Slovenian government limited the prices of electricity and gas for public institutions for the entire year 2023, in order to relieve the country of the energy crisis.
The maximum retail electricity price will be set at EUR 0.207 (USD 0.219) per kilowatt hour for the daytime tariff, EUR 0.1485 for the night tariff and EUR 0.186 (excluding VAT) for the flat tariff. Meanwhile, the highest retail price of natural gas will be 0.095 euros per kilowatt hour, the government announced, adding that the restrictions will apply from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
Restrictions will apply to schools, nursing homes, public agencies and other public institutions.
The government also decided on Thursday to invest 170 million euros in the state electricity distributor Eles, with which it will be able to purchase as much electricity as is necessary to ensure a stable supply in Slovenia. Earlier this month, the government invested €500 million in HSE, another state-owned energy company.
Earlier this year, the government capped electricity and gas prices for households and small businesses. In 2023, it plans to spend around 1.2 billion euros to help companies overcome the energy crisis (1 euro = 1.06 US dollars). ■
