Tottenham battle Chelsea for £9m star Luka Modric calls ‘wonderful’
Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly scouted the Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic at the World Cup in Qatar – the player who delighted Luka Modrić after the penalty shootout in which Croatia beat Japan, mostly thanks to Livaković.
Livaković, 27, was one of the breakout stars of the World Cup. The Croatian goalkeeper scored two clean sheets in three group stage matches against Belgium and Morocco – the latter of which would also reach the semi-finals in Qatar.
Two penalty kicks followed in the round of 16 and the quarter-finals. Against Japan, he saved three penalties and sent Croatia on – and against Brazil, he stopped one. Ben Jacobs he says Tottenham and Chelsea scouted him.
Made in Foot Leeds are also said to be interested, with £9 million enough to land the Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper. Speaking after watching Livaković save three Japanese penalties, Modric tagged goalkeeper Livaković as “wonderful” on FIFA plus.

How would Livakovic be good for 9 million pounds. Tottenham and Chelsea need goalkeepers. At Stamford Bridge, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy have shown bouts of form that are simply not good enough. They need to be replaced.
And Tottenham needs a goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris is now 36 years old and this is believed to be his last season as Tottenham’s number 1. Something that has probably been a long time coming. Is Livakovic the man for Chelsea or Spurs?
He would be an upgrade to Lloris, Kepa or Mendy. But the question is whether he is tall enough to appease Spurs or Chelsea fans. He was great at the World Cup, and he was also for Zagreb. He may have to take that risk.
But at 9 million pounds he would be a low risk and given that both clubs spent fortunes during the summer, Livakovic could be considered ideal. Especially because of his form at the World Cup. He could save both clubs millions in the January transfer window.
