A stamp to celebrate the commemorative work for the health emergency
Presented this morning in the “Il Monte” room of the State Hospital, in the presence of the Secretary of State for Health Roberta Ciavatta, the Director General of Poste San Marino Gian Luca Amici and the San Marino artist Gianluigi Giulianelli, the philatelic issue dedicated to the Commemorative work for the health emergency, four stamps that reproduce the sketches of the sculptural work created by Giulianelli himself, commissioned and inaugurated by the Captains Regent on 8 September 2020 as a tribute and sign of gratitude and thanks to the medical health personnel and to all those who have experienced the pandemic on the front lines, as well as as a tribute to the victims. The work intended to highlight the moods of that dramatic period: isolation, desolation, despondency, nostalgia, illness, while a winged female figure represents love and courage, stripped of all fears. The first value of 1.20 euros shows a seated figure, a representation of nostalgia, a detail from the preparatory sketch by Gianluigi Giulianelli. The second €1.20 stamp reproduces a kneeling figure: hope. The third value of 1.20 euros represents a figure who covers his face with his hands: desperation. The fourth €1.20 stamp shows a seated figure who puts his hands to his face and represents depression. Roberto Ciavatta (Secretary of State for Health): “Today I am truly happy to present this philatelic issue which celebrates a work installed two years ago at the entrance to the State Hospital. While on the one hand I would like to recall how, at that moment, the emergency was very hard, on the other hand I would also like to say that today those very hard moments are over. The beautiful sculpture by Gianluigi Giulianelli remains in front of our hospital to remind us of what happened in the recent past and today, even these stamps celebrate it”. Gian Luca Amici (General Manager of Poste San Marino): “We are pleased to present you this philatelic issue, celebrating a work wanted as a sign of thanks for the healthcare personnel put to the test by the pandemic. The issue takes up Giulianelli’s sketches, sketches from which a prestigious and very beautiful work was born that reminds us of very hard times in our lives. The issues of the Philatelic and Numismatic Division of Poste San Marino often celebrate the Republic of San Marino, represent it in its peculiarities, remember its good times and, as in this case, also its difficult ones. Poste San Marino intends to continue in this direction”. Gianluigi Giulianelli (artist): “I thank Poste San Marino and the Secretariat of State for Health who have intended to celebrate my work by putting the sketches on a philatelic issue. The sketches always represent the beginning of a work, it is there that what can be seen today outside the State Hospital is born. Of course today we live those moments in a different state of mind but I guarantee you that in the days when we were preparing the opera everything was really very complicated. I hope this issue, as well as the work itself, serves to keep alive the memory of those moments and the people who failed to get over them. I’m honored”.
