SCL Tigers shine at the front runner: Langnau punishes those in Geneva who are in the mood for Christmas
Langnau punishes those in Geneva who are in the mood for Christmas
The Emmental surprise in the penultimate game this year. Whereby they also benefit from various Servette errors at 4: 1. Harri Pesonen shines with a hat trick.
During the break, the cheerleaders dance to “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, while the audience wears Santa Claus hats. In short: it’s Christmas time in Geneva. Did this mood affect the home team?
The leader of the table loses 1:4 to the SCL Tigers. Not that they stole the points – such a claim would not do justice to their performance. But they got at least some start-up help from Geneva. Two players are particularly in focus in this rencontre: Henrik Tömmernes and Harri Pesonen.
Tummeln from the role
Ironically, the best defender in the league caught a pitch-black evening. After 15 minutes, he puts the slice on the pan ready for people who won’t be bitten twice. Tömmernes is also on the ice when it’s 2-0 (25th) – or is won after a counterattack in the reeds – of which Pesonen wins.
In general, the events are overturning in this middle third. Dario Rohrbach should actually make it 3-0 if he’s outnumbered, so he’s a mumbling as he can finish in front of Servette goalie Robert Mayer. Instead, Geneva can act shortly afterwards in the power play because Claudio Cadonau affords a 5-minute penalty – already the third this season. It has to be mentioned that his check against Smirnovs also involved bad luck, because he stepped on the disc immediately before physical contact and lost his footing.
But the Tigers are holding tight against the best power play in the league – what’s more, they even scored 3-0. After a bad pass by Hartikainen, dirt can pull away and achieve Langnau’s fifth shorthander this season.
Eakin is out
The Tigers still have to fight for the three points in the final third. But Servette doesn’t manage to break through the solid Emmental defense from Josh Jooris’ goal. Pesonen profits from another Geneva puck loss and bags his hat trick with the Empty-Netter.
The Finn will be able to shift down a few gears after Friday’s home game against Davos. Unlike Marc Michaelis, Aleksi Saarela (both Davos) and Vili Saarijärvi (Ambri), he will not play in the Spengler Cup. Cody Eakin (Team Canada) should take part in the traditional tournament. However, whether the Canadian WILL appear is questionable. In Geneva he has to pause because of an upper body injury.
