Paid parking in Toulouse: the number of parking tickets has more than doubled
With the arrival of two cars equipped with cameras in Toulouse for the control of paid parking, the number of fines has jumped since the start of the school year.
In a city where motorists were far from all paying at the parking meter, the arrival at the start of the school year of two cars equipped with on-board cameras to read registrations and verify payment is a revolution. Since August 16, in Toulouse, a first unmarked vehicle has entered into service. Then a second on September 21. Unsurprisingly, the number of Post-Parking Forfeits (FPS), fines for anyone who failed to pay or overstayed, jumped.
In November, the town hall made a first assessment. Out of 90,533 checks performed, 35,322 FPS were issued. This means first of all that 39% of motorists checked – almost half – were not in good standing.
If we compare to the 14,000 FPS per month on average for the year 2021, this then shows a sharp increase in fines which have been multiplied by 2.5. There are many motorists who discovered in their mailbox a few days after coming to the city center that they had to pay €30. “Two tickets in the same street three days apart for having exceeded the authorization by 5 minutes. Finished for me the city center! “, thus reacts a reader following of an article in our columns on November 22.
This applies to visitors but residents of the city center are also affected because the resident subscription is limited to one vehicle per household.
All places in one day
The town hall did not provide an updated report. But a page has definitely been turned for the car in town. And this all the more so as each year, the number of neighborhoods that become chargeable increases with the resident parking system.
At the start of the school year, Toulouse had 16,600 paying places. In November, the area of Place Arago, Allée Sarraut and a few streets near the Pont des Demoiselles saw the arrival of ticket machines. With its two cars, the town hall now has the possibility of checking all the places in one day.
