Soon cameras in all Toulouse metro trains
A total of 1,392 cameras will be installed in the 116 Toulouse metro trains before the end of 2024. The objective is to improve transport safety and fight against all forms of crime.
In Toulouse, more than 3,000 cameras monitor public transport users, whether in buses, trams, stations and even the cable car. In the corridors of the metro too, 1,195 devices observed daily passenger actions. But once in the metro, nothing. The public transport network Tisseo wants to change things today.
Its president, Jean-Michel Lattes, has just announced the launch of a major program ofinstallation of CCTV cameras. A first device has already been installed in one of the frames of line A at the beginning of December. Two more will be implemented during the month of January. Then, following the experiment which will last six months, the transport network plans to deployment of 1,392 cameras in the 116 metro ramps of the Pink City. “The 15 new trains put into service from 2024 will also be equipped with cameras and the same system”, specifies Tisséo. The equipment will therefore be complete within two years.
Surveillance cameras to improve security in the Toulouse metro
The main objective of the installation of surveillance cameras in the frames of the Toulouse metro is toEnsure the security of all travellers. In particular, fighting against all forms of harassment. But also, by having more means to rand discover the perpetrators. The video images are in fact kept on a disc for a week before being destroyed.
In the event of thefts or more serious acts, this period gives the police time to request them from the Tisséo teams, then view them, in order to identify the offenders. “ CCTV is an essential tool and complementary to the human presence. It will contribute to the tranquility of travelers and staff. It will provide additional support for network safety and operation,” concludes Jean-Michel Lattes.
