RTL Today – Ambulances and trucks: Rescue vehicles left Luxembourg for Ukraine
Seized rescue vehicles left Bascharage early Wednesday morning heading for Ukraine.
Luxembourg and Ukrainian volunteers will drive these ambulances and fire trucks to the Polish border, and on Thursday they will continue to Lviv. The Luxembourg drivers were to be back in the Grand Duchy on Sunday evening, Christmas Day.
On Wednesday, it was only the first convoy that set off. The objective of the “Ukraine calls” campaign, carried out in October, is indeed to transfer 112 ambulances and fire engines from Luxembourg to Ukraine.
To carry out this operation, the LUkraine association asked the Luxembourg Ministry of the Interior to make vehicles available. The CGDIS operated a triage and prepared a number of ambulances to make them directly operational. So that the emergency vehicles can be sent to Ukraine, the tires and the brakes, for example, have been refurbished, so that they can intervene immediately in a war zone.
Eight of the twelve ambulances were provided by the Ministry of the Interior, the others were co-financed by partners, in particular a film festival or companies.
Once they arrive in Lviv, the vehicles will later be handed over to the local rescue services, who will be responsible for dispatching them and transferring them to the areas where they are most needed.
